Wilshire Baptist Church celebrates publication of George Mason’s sermons

Wilshire Baptist Church is sharing a selection of sermons by George Mason, a former senior pastor of the East Dallas church.

A new book, The Word Made Fresh: Preaching God’s Love for Every Body, includes 80 of Mason’s sermons; half of them are accompanied by QR codes linking to digital recordings so readers can watch and hear Mason deliver the messages. Topics explored in the teachings include the basics of Christianity, stewardship, interfaith relationships, peacemaking, including vulnerable people in community and more.

The book was conceived as a retirement gift to Mason, who became, at age 32, Wilshire’s fourth senior pastor, a position he held for more than 30 years.

Mason, who was a regular Advocate worship columnist for more than two decades, announced his retirement last year. Timothy Peoples was named the new senior pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in December 2022.

He is a co-founder of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the interfaith nonprofit Faith Commons, which produces the Good God podcast hosted by Mason. He also teaches at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology.

A book signing is scheduled for 9-10:45 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. June 4 in the James Gallery at Wilshire Baptist Church, located at 4316 Abrams Road. There will be a worship service at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.
